Overwhelming Grace Ministries: Statement of Faith
We believe that the authority of a Christian ministry rests solely upon the inspired, infallible, and authoritative Word of God. Our faith is the foundation upon which our mission, values, and covenant are built.
I. The Holy Scriptures
We believe the Bible, consisting of the sixty-six books of the Old and New Testaments, is the only inspired, inerrant, and authoritative Word of God. It is the complete and final revelation of God's will for salvation and is the ultimate standard for Christian faith and life.
II. The Triune God
We believe in one God, eternally existing in three distinct persons: the Father, the Son (Jesus Christ), and the Holy Spirit. These three are one God, co-equal in power, substance, and glory.
III. Jesus Christ
We believe that Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God, fully God and fully man. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He lived a sinless life, offered Himself as a substitutionary sacrifice for the sins of the world through His death on the cross, was physically resurrected from the dead, ascended to the right hand of the Father, and will personally return in power and glory.
IV. Humanity and Salvation
We believe that all human beings are sinners by nature and by choice and are unable to save themselves. Salvation is the gift of God, brought to humanity by grace through faith in Jesus Christ alone. This grace is unmerited and cannot be earned by works. When a person repents and accepts Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, they are justified, forgiven of all sins, and receive eternal life. Our commitment is to reflect this abundant Overwhelming Grace to all.
V. The Holy Spirit
We believe in the Holy Spirit, who indwells all believers at the moment of salvation, sealing them unto the day of redemption. The Holy Spirit is the Divine Helper who guides us into all truth, empowers us for service, and cultivates the fruit of the Spirit in our lives. We believe in the present-day operation of the gifts of the Spirit.
VI. The Ordinances
We believe that Christ instituted two ordinances for the church to observe until He returns:
Water Baptism: We believe Christian baptism is the immersion of a believer in water in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. It is a public, symbolic act demonstrating the believer's faith, symbolizing our union with Christ in His death, burial, and resurrection, and testifying to our new life in Him.
Holy Communion (The Lord's Supper): We believe Holy Communion is a symbolic and sacred act of remembrance of Christ’s suffering and death for our salvation. It is to be observed regularly by believers until His return, proclaiming His sacrifice and fellowship with Him.
VII. The Church and Future Things
We believe that the Church is the spiritual body of Christ, with Christ as the Head. The purposes of the Church are worship, instruction, fellowship, and Missional Service (Grace In Action). We believe in the personal and imminent return of the Lord Jesus Christ and the bodily resurrection of the saved and the lost.
